Go Behind the Pharmacy Counter with Comedian Brad SherwoodGo Behind the Pharmacy Counter with Comedian Brad Sherwood

In October 2008, to raise awareness of American Pharmacists Month and to recognize the important role that pharmacists play within the community, the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) has teamed with Brad Sherwood to create Behind-the-Counter Encounters. Through this educational campaign, Brad and APhA will celebrate our pharmacists and shed light on what happens every day behind the pharmacy counter.

Discover What Really Goes on Behind-the-Counter

Have you ever wondered what your pharmacist does behind-the-counter?
Through engaging and entertaining online video vignettes, Brad Sherwood will host one-on-one interviews with pharmacists at their counters to help capture “a day in the life” of a pharmacist.

By participating in Behind-the-Counter Encounters, Brad Sherwood hopes to recognize pharmacists for the critical role they play in people’s healthcare and to encourage dialogue between consumers and their pharmacists.

Pharmacists: Trusted Advisors

Pharmacists are trusted advisors who have the training and knowledge to help consumers with questions find the medicine that is right for them both in front of and behind-the-counter. However, according to a survey (n=1,719) conducted by the American Pharmacists Association (APhA), most consumers are unaware of the important role that their pharmacist plays in their healthcare team:

  • When asked about their personal relationships, individuals who responded had more interaction with their hairdresser than they did with their pharmacist, who is an important health care professional.
  • A majority (68 percent) of these individuals didn’t even know their pharmacist’s name.

Some cold, sinus and allergy medicines are sold behind-the-counter, so there is a need for consumers to talk with their pharmacist to help locate medicines that are behind the pharmacy or service counter.

The Behind-the-Counter Encounters Campaign is sponsored by McNeil Consumer Healthcare
